Tovetorp Zoological Research Station

Tovetorp is a fully equipped research station which can accomodate both you and your research project every need. 

With 90 beds, 22 animal facilities and 2 laboratories and highly renovend resturant during the season, we aim to make your stay as pleasant as  we can

Animal housing and observational halls

Tovetorp has 13 rooms suitable for animal housing of birds, fish or small mammals. They vary in size from 8 m2 to 27 m2. Eight of these have outdoor access to separate pens. One of the rooms is sound-proofed.

There are also 7 temperature and climate-controlled rooms, each 8m2.

Tovetorp features two observational chambers, the larger is 75m2 and 4 meters high. It has movable lights and an observational deck in an adjacent room, which makes for perfect view of animals with interference for the research team. The smaller room is 25 m2 and it also has an observational window form an adjacent room.

Laboratories

There is a fully equipped laboratory in the course building which can be used during off season by researchers. There is a smaller laboratory of lesser standard in the animal housing facilities, which will be renovated to modern requirements in 2020.

Wood and metal workshop

Sometimes one needs to craft items on site rather than waiting for spare parts. We have a fully equipped workshop with all the tools need to work in wood and metal including welding equipment and band saws.

We have a research engineer and an animal caretaker on staff which are happy to, when time permits, to help with your projects.

Tovetorp has room for 90 people in our eleven residential houses and conference center. Some of these hoses are fully equipped with shower and kitchen for long term residents, whereas others offer hostel level accommodation. Our renovned fully staffed restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon coffee and dinner during the season, all made expertly on site form fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and meat. Off-season there are two kitchens available for you to use.

Tovetorp has office rooms for visiting scientist for your deskwork. We also have several group and conference rooms.

Wifi through Eduroam is available throughout Tovetorp. Thanks to the latest fiber technology we can offer speed up to 650 Mbps through our LAN access points!
